Chapter 02 — About

Beyond the White Coat

A physician whose career spans the bedside and the boardroom.

Dr. Hassnah Omar Dammas trained in internal medicine, nephrology and kidney transplantation in Saudi Arabia and Canada. She went on to lead and build clinical services — and to bring the discipline of quality, risk and governance to how care is organised.

Leadership philosophy

  1. i.
Patients first, systems always. Safe care depends on well-designed systems, not individual heroics.
  2. ii.
Build, then improve. New services deserve the same rigour as established ones — measured, reviewed and refined.
  3. iii.
Govern for trust. Compliance, risk and data protection exist to earn the confidence of patients and teams.

After an honours MBBS at King Abdulaziz University and the Saudi Board in Internal Medicine with honours, she earned the Saudi Board in Adult Nephrology and completed two Canadian clinical fellowships at the University of Western Ontario — in adult nephrology and transplant nephrology.

Leading clinical units and founding new services drew her toward the systems behind care — quality, accreditation and governance — and to an Executive MBA at London Business School. Her selected achievements, career milestones and full credentials follow in the chapters below.

Beyond Medicine. Into Leadership.

Executive MBALondon Business School2022

Dr. Hassnah's Executive MBA from London Business School represents an important evolution in her professional journey—bringing together years of clinical leadership with a broader understanding of strategy, organizational performance, finance, and executive decision-making.

For a physician whose career has spanned clinical practice, service development, and healthcare leadership, the EMBA represents a natural progression: from delivering excellent care to helping shape the systems that make excellent care possible.

The Executive Perspective

The experience complemented her medical expertise with a business and leadership perspective, reinforcing her ability to approach healthcare challenges not only through the lens of clinical excellence, but also through organizational strategy, operational effectiveness, and long-term value.

Clinical excellence remains the foundation of effective healthcare. Yet sustaining that excellence requires more than medical expertise. It calls for strategic thinking, financial awareness, organizational leadership, and the ability to navigate complex decisions.

The Executive MBA strengthened the connection between these disciplines, bringing a broader management perspective to Dr. Hassnah's work in healthcare leadership, quality, governance, and transformation.

A New Chapter · Sustainable Healthcare

Caring for Patients. Caring for the Planet.

Advancing healthcare that is clinically excellent, environmentally responsible, and sustainable for generations to come.

For Dr. Hassnah, the pursuit of better healthcare is expanding beyond the traditional boundaries of clinical quality and patient safety.

Sustainable healthcare offers a broader perspective on what responsible care should mean—not only improving outcomes for patients today, but also protecting the resources, environment, and healthcare systems on which future generations will depend.

Drawing on her clinical background, executive education, and experience in healthcare governance, she sees sustainability as a natural extension of quality and safety: an opportunity to deliver excellent care while reducing avoidable environmental impact, improving resource stewardship, and strengthening long-term healthcare resilience.

Her developing focus in this field reflects a commitment to helping healthcare evolve toward a future in which clinical excellence and environmental responsibility advance together.

  1. Quality, Safety & Sustainability

    Excellence Without Compromise

Environmental responsibility and clinical excellence should reinforce one another. Sustainable healthcare challenges us to improve the way care is delivered while preserving—and wherever possible strengthening—quality, patient safety, and the overall patient experience.

  2. Resource Stewardship

    Making Every Resource Count

Healthcare depends on significant resources, including water, energy, materials, and medical supplies. Responsible stewardship means recognizing their value, reducing avoidable waste, and pursuing smarter approaches that preserve resources without compromising clinical care.

This is particularly relevant to resource-intensive specialties such as nephrology and dialysis.

  3. The Future of Healthcare

    Building Healthcare That Endures

The next generation of healthcare systems must be clinically effective, operationally resilient, and environmentally responsible.

Sustainable transformation requires long-term thinking, innovation, accountable leadership, and a willingness to reconsider established practices in pursuit of better outcomes for patients and the planet.
